Who: We are educational specialists in working with students and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder

What: We can provide direct instruction and support to persons with ASD in the areas of social skills, life skills, and behavior intervention. CLASS can also provide consultative services to families, schools, physicians, tutors, therapists, babysitters, and other care givers for persons with ASD.

Why: It can be difficult for providers to keep up to date on the vast array of strategies and therapies now promoted for children with ASD. Our CLASS specialists will work with families, schools, and others to help educate them about which potential treatments and educational strategies are research-based and may best meet the needs for a particular child. CLASS also works with adults with ASD, and can provide training and support to employers, spouses, and support staff. In addition, it can be challenging to coordinate information and care between schools, health providers, and families. CLASS can serve as a liaison between these providers to ensure that treatment plans are implemented with efficacy.

Where: Washington DC Metro area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia

How: CLASS will provide up to date information and advice on evidenced-based strategies and best practices for persons with ASD. We can provide information and advice to help create the best individualized service plan for children and families. CLASS specialists can do an evaluation of an individual child, in collaboration with families, school personnel, and outside therapists. They can then work with everyone to help ensure that everyone understands the educational or behavioral plan. CLASS can facilitate trainings and workshops for both groups and individuals on topics such as:

• Applied behavior analysis
• Creating meaningful IEPs
• Person-centered transition planning
• Information on community resources
• Social skills supports
• Curriculums for students with ASD
